Free entry for all Club Lotus members
The Jim Clark Trust are organising a weekend event at Duns to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Jim’s first F1 World Championship and also Team Lotus first F1 Constructors World Championship.
The event will be based at Duns Castle where there will be a big display of Lotus racing cars raced by Jim during his career. Other vintage Lotus and sports cars will also be there plus a big display of Lotus road cars. It is hoped that the engines of the Grand Prix cars will be started periodically over the weekend to enable visitors to hear the evocative noise they generate.
Club Lotus members’ cars will be a key part of the event and will be on display in the Duns Castle car park for visitors to admire. There will be a £5 entry fee per day for the general public but all Club Lotus members who pre-register with either Andrew Laing (email: andrew@laingsfoundry.co.uk), Bob Dickson (email: rsdlotus@gmail.com) or Club HQ will gain free entry. The opening hours are 10.00 to 4.00pm Saturday and 10.00 to 3.30pm Sunday after which we will head to Chirnside to lay a wreath on Jim’s grave.
On display will be a wide selection of cars that Jim either drove or which are associated with him. They are expected to include: Lotus 18, Lotus 21, Lotus 25, Lotus 38, several Lotus Cortina’s, Lotus Elan’s and a Jaguar D-type. Sincere thanks to Classic Team Lotus, Nick Fennell, Andy Middlehurst, Will Payton and Peter Windsor amongst others for making these very important cars available.
As well as the cars on display, the tractor used by the Clark family at Edington Mains Farm will be on site. Live entertainment will be provided by the Duns Pipe Band and the singing McAndrew sisters. Food and drink will be available during both days and there will be a silent auction with the prize of a tour of Classic Team Lotus. The Jim Clark Trust will be launching Eric Bryce's new book of rare Jim Clark photographs on Saturday 24th June and copies of the book will be available to buy at the event. The Jim Clark Room with its wonderful displays of photographs, trophies, memorabilia and cars will also be open all weekend.
On Saturday from 7.00-9.00pm there will be a talk “An Evening with Motorsport Legends” at Duns Primary School, Langtongate, Duns, TD11 3QQ. To quote the Jim Clark Trust this will be “An engaging and fascinating evening listening to each of their experiences with the late Jim Clark”. We understand that Bob Dance, Dave ‘Beaky’ Simms and possibly Dick Scammell and Peter Windsor will be guest speakers.
